Operational Concept Development

Constrained NAS resources require that the current system to be continuously automated and improved through extensive data sharing. The future Next Generation Aviation System will require innovative ideas and concepts that reach beyond automating and improving today’s NAS.  AAS applies a combination of current domain knowledge with applied sciences and uninhibited thought processes to develop enhanced operational technology improvements and produce system wide future solutions.

  • Collaborative Decision Making (CDM) committee participation has provided AAS with a complete knowledge of current and transitional TFM technology development.

  • Advanced NAS concept formulation has been enhanced by participating in the Boeing ATM Future Traffic Flow Management concept development and membership on The Boeing National Flow Improvement Team.

The AAS operations team has recently assisted in developing concepts for operational improvements in the following areas:

  • Airport surface management:

  • Gate state of readiness concept - Concept written for Delta Air Lines to explore how surface surveillance technology can aid in gate management.

  • De-icing management concept - Concept developed to explore how surface surveillance decision support technology can aid in de-icing pad management.

  • Dispatcher Turbulence Display - Concept and prototype development to display real time turbulence reports to aircraft dispatchers.
